Automatic Gearbox Specialists in Aylesbury

Gearbox playing up?We can help.

Automatic gearbox faults do not always fail dramatically. Sometimes the first sign is simply that the car no longer changes gear as cleanly or predictably as it used to.

We support Aylesbury customers with specialist transmission diagnostics, repair and rebuilding from our Barton-le-Clay workshop, with collection available when workshop travel is inconvenient.

Describe the change you have noticed; you do not need to identify the component yourself.

Does any of this sound familiar?

What feels different compared with normal?

A small change in engagement, shift timing, noise or smoothness can be diagnostically useful. We start with what the driver has noticed, then test the gearbox before deciding what needs attention.

✓

Slipping gears

The revs rise without matching road speed, especially under acceleration or once the transmission is warm.

✓

Juddering or shuddering

Repeated judder when pulling away can indicate clutch, mechatronic or torque-converter issues. Read our automatic gearbox juddering guide.

✓

Delayed Drive or Reverse

Drive or Reverse takes a few seconds to engage after parking, restarting or manoeuvring, sometimes followed by a bump as drive takes up.

✓

Warning light on

A gearbox or transmission warning has appeared and you are unsure what it means. See what an automatic gearbox warning light can mean.

✓

Strange noises

Whining, clunking or unusual noises under load or during gear changes. Read our automatic gearbox noises guide.

✓

Loss of drive

The vehicle loses drive, refuses a gear or enters limp mode. If that happens, avoid repeatedly forcing the car to continue and arrange diagnosis as soon as practical.

Does the fault only appear once the gearbox is warm?

That matters. Torque-converter, pressure and internal clutch faults can become more obvious once the gearbox is warm, while some control faults are clearest at low speed or from cold.

Simple next steps

What happens after you enquire?

We use the symptoms and vehicle details to understand the problem before recommending the next step.

1

Tell us what is happening

Give us the registration and describe the problem: slipping, juddering, warning light, delayed engagement or anything else you have noticed.

2

A specialist reviews it

The gearbox team considers the transmission type, symptoms and whether diagnosis, collection or recovery is likely to be required.

3

We explain the next step

You are told what needs to happen next and what options are available before agreed repair work begins.

Aylesbury Gearbox Support

Automatic Gearbox Specialist Near Aylesbury

Aylesbury is covered as a Buckinghamshire service area rather than a separate branch. Customers can arrange collection from the town and surrounding villages while the specialist repair work remains at Barton-le-Clay.

Aylesbury combines stop-start urban driving with faster regional routes including the A41, A418, A413 and A4010. That means some faults are most obvious when pulling away around town, while others only appear once the gearbox is hot and carrying more load.

Automatic, DSG, CVT and Powershift Repairs for Aylesbury Drivers

Automatic gearbox faults vary significantly depending on the transmission fitted. DSG, CVT, Powershift, DCT and conventional automatic systems can produce similar symptoms for very different reasons, which is why diagnosis comes first.

Automatic Gearbox

Conventional automatics can develop delayed engagement, harsh shifts, flare or warm-speed shudder. Valve-body pressure, torque-converter behaviour and internal wear need separating before repair.

DSG & Dual-Clutch

DSG and dual-clutch faults often appear during low-speed pull-aways and junction work: clutch judder, hesitant take-up, snatching and mechatronic pressure faults are common patterns to investigate.

  • Judder when pulling away
  • Mechatronic warnings
  • Poor clutch engagement
  • Intermittent limp mode

CVT & Powershift

CVT and Powershift systems can show rising revs, poor ratio control, actuator faults or intermittent drive loss. Testing determines whether the issue is electronic, clutch-related or internal.

  • Revs rise without matching speed
  • Actuator or clutch faults
  • Transmission warning messages
  • Loss of drive

Mechatronic & Valve Body

A mechatronic or valve-body fault can mimic major gearbox failure. Pressure testing and electronic diagnosis can sometimes isolate a component repair instead of replacing the complete transmission.

  • Pressure-control faults
  • Solenoid problems
  • Gear-selection issues
  • Electronic/hydraulic faults
Why Aylesbury Drivers Choose Beds

Specialist Diagnosis Before Expensive Gearbox Parts Are Replaced

Beds Automatic Transmissions has focused on gearbox work since 1991. For Aylesbury customers, that means access to a dedicated transmission workshop rather than a general garage carrying out occasional gearbox repairs.

Established transmission specialists

Long-term experience across automatic, DSG, CVT, Powershift, hybrid and dual-clutch transmission systems.

Diagnosis before repair

Fault codes, live data, symptoms and transmission behaviour are considered before expensive assemblies are authorised.

Clear estimate before work

The diagnosis and proposed repair route are explained before agreed repair work starts, helping avoid unnecessary parts replacement.

Collection across Aylesbury

Collection from home, work or a recovery location can be discussed when the car is difficult or unsafe to drive.

12-month qualifying warranty

Qualifying transmission and gearbox repairs include 12-month warranty protection, with the applicable terms explained with the repair.

Repair, rebuild or replacement advice

Where appropriate, the team can compare component repair, gearbox rebuilding and reconditioned replacement options rather than defaulting to one route.

Aylesbury Gearbox Questions

Gearbox Repairs in Aylesbury: What Drivers Ask Us

Straightforward answers for Aylesbury customers arranging specialist gearbox help.

Do you have a workshop in Aylesbury?

No. Aylesbury is a service area. Our specialist workshop is in Barton-le-Clay, Bedfordshire, with collection available by arrangement.

Can you collect a non-driving car from Aylesbury?

Yes. Collection can be discussed from Aylesbury and nearby areas such as Stoke Mandeville, Wendover, Bierton and Aston Clinton.

What causes delayed engagement in an automatic gearbox?

Possible causes include hydraulic pressure loss, valve-body wear, clutch-fill problems, control faults and internal leakage.

Why is my gearbox slipping under acceleration?

Slipping can be linked to clutch wear, pressure loss, torque-converter problems or internal transmission damage and should be investigated before it worsens.

Can you repair a DSG mechatronic fault?

Compatible mechatronic units can be tested and repaired where appropriate, provided the rest of the transmission is also assessed.

Do you repair valve bodies?

Yes. Compatible valve bodies can be inspected, cleaned, tested and repaired, with solenoids replaced where required.

Can a warning light be caused by software or electronics?

Yes. Transmission warnings can result from sensors, wiring, control modules, software, hydraulic issues or mechanical faults.

Do you repair hybrid transmissions?

Yes. Compatible hybrid transmission systems can be diagnosed where mechanical and electronic controls interact.

When is a complete gearbox rebuild necessary?

A rebuild is generally considered when internal wear or damage is extensive enough that a targeted component repair would not address the overall condition.

How long does diagnosis take?

The time varies with the fault and the gearbox. Some problems are straightforward to reproduce while intermittent or complex faults may require more testing.

What details should I provide when I contact you?

Send the registration, mileage, symptoms, warning messages and any information about when the fault first appeared or changes with temperature.

Do you warranty gearbox repairs?

Qualifying repairs include a 12-month warranty, subject to the terms applying to the work completed.

Repair
My Audi A3 hybrid had a major gearbox malfunction. After being let down by another company, Beds Automatic Transmissions stepped in. They picked up the car themselves and were only not able to repair my gearbox but they also managed to get the hybrid battery working again after over 2 months of being completely discharged.
I cannot recommend this company highly enough. They said they would attempt to repair the gearbox (which Audi wanted to replace in total) which they did with great efficiency. Nino, the owner, was also kind enough to write a repair report for me.

Gearbox Repair
Nino came highly recommended from a previous mechanic who promised he'd take good care of me - I'm clueless on cars. But that he did - not only is my car now driving smoothly as on Day 1 but the pricing (and warranty) was as best as could be imagined for a transmission issue as noisy as mine was. Not only was Nino and the staff simply lovely, you can tell the quality and pride someone takes in their work by the state of the place - organised, (dare I even say) very clean, professional. Thanks guys! I would definitely recommend your business to anyone.

Gearbox Repair
Took my BMW X5 to the team at Beds Automotive Transmissions because my automatic gearbox was slipping and making a slight noise on Saturday 28th March for a full gearbox service, on arrival k was greeted by one of the workshop lads who was polite and very professional, I was then pointed in the direction of the business owner Nino. I asked what was involved in the service he was more than happy to explain the full process and gave his time to run this by me even showing a 8 speed gearbox to similar to mine so I could see the internal workings of all. The service from start to finish was great the workshop lads were friendly. I left the garage after the service and it was like driving a new car, no slipping gears and no noises from the gearbox. I would highly recommend this company for any gearbox issues or concerns, if in doubt speak with Nino who will be more than happy to help or explain what is required. Top guys.

Having an issue with an automatic gearbox is never fun or cheap - but appreciate the craft and complexity of doing the job properly. You can tell Nino knows his stuff, is a really pleasant and kind guy to converse with. After testing my car out for 2 weeks post repair, my Audi Q7 actually drives smoother than it did before. I really hope I never have to visit his shop again, but know a place i can return to if i am unlucky enough or even for a natter.
